Fear of driving (Amaxophobia)

Fear of driving is a now widespread anxiety condition that falls into the category of phobias. In technical jargon, this is called amaxophobia.

Various symptoms can occur that make driving almost impossible.

Typical features are:

  • Panic attacks

  • Sweating

  • Increased heart rate

The main thing is that you have to admit to yourself whether you have such a phobia or disorder. With our special amaxophobia coaching, it is possible to get this fear under control.

The most important thing about the solution is:

To solve a problem, you have to be aware that one exists.

The causes of the phobia can vary. We distinguish between two basic forms:

  • Specific driving anxiety
Fears that are directly related to cars or the process of driving. Those affected often have the feeling of losing control over the situation. In particular, they believe that their own mistakes could cause an accident.

  • Non-specific driving anxiety
A distinction is made here between:

    • Social anxiety
Those affected are afraid of socially stressful situations in traffic, honking or criticism from other drivers. They often suffer from strong feelings of guilt after making small mistakes while driving.

    • Claustrophobia (agoraphobia)
This form of fear often occurs in construction site situations or on motorways, as there is no possibility to escape or stop. You feel confined and at the mercy of the situation.

    • Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
PTSD is usually caused by experiences of an accident or near-accident, as many sufferers have not yet mentally processed this experience and are still suffering from it.
Those affected associate many situations with the event they experienced previously.

In an individual coaching session , we will find out together what form of fear it is and how we can get it under control.

Various coaching elements can be helpful:

  • Recognize and admit the fear

  • Countermeasures

  • Learning to handle

  • Accept professional help

We would be happy to support you personally with an individual plan so that you too can get your anxiety under control.

From my previous work as a coach, I am convinced that we can achieve this together and that you will soon be able to get into your car without fear.
